Site Reliabiliy Engineer (m/f/d)
About us
VisioLab is AI-powered self-checkout for stadiums, arenas, university canteens, corporate campuses, and more. Founded in 2019 by Tim Niekamp and Iwo Gernemann, we're headquartered in Osnabrück with a US office in Boston. 400+ active systems, 3 continents, Series A closed. Our clients include teams from the NFL, NBA, MLS, and NHL.
Every year, millions of people move faster through food service venues because of what we build.
The role
When 40,000 fans order at once, your infrastructure can’t flinch.
VisioLab’s product processes real-time transactions in the most demanding environments imaginable. Our infrastructure needs to be fast, resilient, and effortlessly scalable.
We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (m/f/d) with Compliance Experience to take ownership of our infrastructure reliability and lead our security and compliance posture as we scale.
This is a role with real influence. You'll work across teams to drive change, raise the bar on how we operate, and bring the rigor that makes audits like SOC 2 and ISO 27001 successful. We're not looking for someone to write policies in isolation - we're looking for someone who can move the engineering organization with them.
What you'll do
Reliability & Infrastructure
Own the reliability, scalability, and observability of our production systems (GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform)
Improve incident response and on-call practices (we use sentry, crashlytics, incident.io)
Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and deployment safety
Partner with backend engineers on system design and operational readiness
Security & Compliance
Lead SOC 2 and ISO 27001 efforts end-to-end, from gap analysis to audit readiness
Define and enforce policies around access control, secrets management, encryption, logging, and data protection
Build the practices, controls, and evidence collection that keep us compliant without slowing teams down
Act as the point of contact for auditors and align infrastructure with compliance requirements
Work closely with leadership to embed security into how we build
Change Management & Influence
Drive a transformation in how the team thinks about reliability, security, and compliance
Bring engineers along through clear communication, not mandates
Coach, advocate, and shape culture across the organization
What you'll bring
Experience
Hands-on experience leading at least one SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification from preparation to successful audit
Solid SRE background: production systems on GCP (or comparable), Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD
Strong grasp of security best practices in cloud environments (IAM, secrets, encryption, logging)
Experience working with auditors and translating their requirements into engineering work
Communication & Influence
Excellent written and verbal communication, you can explain why in a way people remember
Proven ability to drive change across an engineering team without formal authority
Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing others along
Mindset
Ownership-first approach: you see what needs to happen and you make it happen
Calm and clear under pressure, especially during incidents and audits
Pragmatic, you know when to push for the gold standard and when good enough is good enough
