virtualQ develops an enterprise SaaS platform for AI-driven optimization of customer interactions. Our solution is used in production by customers in highly regulated industries and processes large volumes of real-time interactions across voice and digital channels every day.

As a Software Engineer at virtualQ, you work at the intersection of a stable product platform and modern AI architecture. You will be working closely with product management, defining work-packages and guarding the development process. You show bias for action, proactively take responsibility and you question the status quo.

You further develop existing services and build new components in which LLMs, conversational AI, and agentic systems are deployed in a production-ready manner.

The focus is not on research, but on the reliable, scalable implementation of AI in real customer processes.

  • Further development of our core platform (frontend, backend & services)
  • Building and integrating LLM-based components (e.g. decision logic, assistant systems, orchestration)
  • Developing intelligent voice and chatbots (inbound/outbound, voice & text)
  • Contributing to agentic AI approaches (e.g. autonomous workflows, tool use, multi-step reasoning)
  • Close collaboration with Product, Data Science, and customer-facing teams
  • Ensuring quality, traceability, and compliance for AI-driven functionality

Our existing stack forms the foundation on which we are building the next generation of AI:

Technical Platform:

  • Backend: Ruby on Rails, Python, Elixir
  • Frontend: React
  • Infrastructure: AWS (ECS/Fargate, PostgreSQL, Redis, Terraform)

AI-Focus:

  • LLMs and prompt-based systems (including tool calling, memory, and orchestration)
  • Conversational AI for voice and chat (dialog management, NLU/NLG, STT)
  • Agentic AI (autonomous agents, decision logic, interaction with internal services)
  • Python-based AI services, cleanly integrated into the existing system landscape

What We Expect:

  • A permanent work and residency permit for Germany/EU
  • More than six years of experience in backend or platform development
  • Solid experience in planning and architecting large-scale software systems
  • Experience with production-grade, distributed systems
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, conversational AI, or agentic systems
  • Proactive ownership of topics and a structured approach to problem-solving
  • Understanding of enterprise requirements (security, audits, availability)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with productive voice systems, bots, or dialog platforms
  • Experience with productive LLM frameworks and agentic patterns
  • You work on production-grade AI in an enterprise environment, not demos
  • You help shape how agentic AI is responsibly embedded into real-world processes
  • An established platform combined with new AI capabilities offers significant room for impact
  • Technical depth instead of buzzwords
