A growing number of our more technical customers are treating Funnel like a data warehouse or data infrastructure provider — expecting direct, reliable, and high-performance access to their raw and modeled data.
To meet this demand, we’re hiring a Senior Data Platform Engineer – Data Query and Export to focus on how we deliver and expose customer data at scale. You’ll work on evolving our platform into something that can support low-latency, multi-tenant data querying and efficient export, enabling customers to seamlessly access large datasets from their data lakes, warehouses, or analytics tools.
You’ll be part of the Data platform team, building infrastructure that serves external customers and operates as a core part of our SaaS product.
At Funnel, engineers have end-to-end ownership of their systems — from design and implementation to deployment, observability, and scaling. Our platform teams are responsible for the foundations that make the product fast, reliable, and scalable for 2,000+ businesses (and growing).
In this role, you'll focus on the part of the data platform that powers customer-facing data access and delivery. That means architecting systems that:
Handle large-scale data volumes efficiently
Serve a multi-tenant environment with high performance and reliability
Are extensible and adaptable for future use cases (e.g., data lakes, lakehouse integrations, advanced querying)
You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues working on infrastructure, connectors, modeling, and customer experience — but your domain will be the systems that make customer data accessible at scale.
Design and build systems that expose and export data to external users, treating data delivery as a first-class part of our platform.
Work with technologies like Apache Arrow, Parquet, Iceberg, and DataFusion to support queryable, structured access to large datasets.
Ensure that our data query and export infrastructure is scalable, reliable, and multi-tenant aware.
Define and evolve technology and storage patterns for customers to interact with their data efficiently and safely.
Set up and manage cloud-native infrastructure (primarily in AWS) to support storage, access control, and high-throughput data access patterns.
Contribute to system architecture and collaborate with other teams to ensure alignment across the platform.
Continuously improve observability, performance, and operational robustness.
6–10+ years of backend or platform engineering experience in data-intensive environments.
Experience designing multi-tenant systems and understanding the architectural challenges they present (e.g., isolation, performance, cost control).
Proficiency with cloud infrastructure, especially in AWS (S3, IAM, CDK, ECS, etc.).
Experience with developing distributed systems for processing data.
Solid programming skills in a backend language such as C/C++, Go, Java, or Rust (We use Rust in our data processing, it is not required, but nice to have).
Comfortable designing and evolving systems with a customer-centric mindset.
Knowledge of security, access control, and data governance in customer-facing data platforms.
You’re energized by infrastructure that powers products, not just supports internal teams.
You enjoy solving scaling and performance challenges in real-world, customer-facing systems.
You’re pragmatic — you find simple solutions to complex problems and iterate as needed.
You value strong collaboration, clear communication, and a “build together” mindset.
You care deeply about creating reliable, accessible systems that external users can depend on.
