The Role

As a Field Service Engineer you will install, commission, and support our cryogenic I/O systems at customer sites around the world. You will work at the interface of engineering, manufacturing, and customer success, ensuring our products are integrated successfully into complex quantum computing systems.

This is a hands-on role requiring mechanical precision, technical troubleshooting, and excellent communication skills. You will become a trusted technical representative of Delft Circuits, supporting customers during installation, upgrades, maintenance, and training.

This position requires frequent international travel (approximately 30–50% of the time) to support installations at customer sites worldwide.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Installation & Commissioning

  • Cooperate installing cryogenic I/O systems in dilution refrigerators and quantum computing laboratories, both research and industrial scale
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, and thermal integration of Delft Circuits products
  • Verify system functionality through testing, inspection, and acceptance procedures
  • Document installation activities and provide commissioning reports

Technical Support

  • Diagnose and resolve installation and integration issues at customer sites
  • Provide first-line technical support during system commissioning
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to resolve complex technical challenges
  • Support preventive maintenance and product upgrades

Continuous Improvement

  • Capture customer feedback and communicate lessons learned to engineering, research and product development teams
  • Improve installation procedures, documentation, and service tools
  • Contribute to product reliability and manufacturability improvements

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with R&D, Production, Quality, and Sales teams
  • Support factory acceptance testing before shipment
  • Assist in developing installation manuals and training materials
  • Support in-house manufacturing activities (assembly, internal QC test) in between the customer’s installation sessions

What you bring

  • MBO+ or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
  • Experience with installation, commissioning, or servicing of high-tech equipment, for at least one year
  • Strong hands-on mechanical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to read technical drawings and assembly documentation
  • Experience troubleshooting technical systems
  • Basic understanding of RF and microwave measurements, including vector network analyzer (VNA) operation, calibration techniques, S-parameter measurements, and DC characterization
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 30–50% depending on project load)

Bonus points for

  • Experience working with cryogenic equipment, vacuum systems, or scientific instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with dilution refrigerators or low-temperature physics laboratories.
  • Experience with cleanroom environments.
  • Understanding of RF, microwave, or high-frequency cabling.
  • Experience performing RF and microwave measurements using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) at an expert level.
  • Basic programming or scripting skills (Python, LabVIEW, or similar).
  • Experience working in customer-facing technical roles.

You will split your time between:

  • Delft Circuits’ headquarters in Delft,
  • Customer laboratories across Europe, North America, and Asia,
  • Manufacturing and testing facilities,
  • Occasionally supporting field service and urgent customer requests.
