Communications & PR Specialist (m/f/d)
Marketing & Communications
Lichtenau, Germany
Job description
ATMOS Space Cargo builds reusable spacecraft that carry payloads to orbit and bring them back to Earth. We are looking for a Communications & PR Specialist to run our press and media relations and tell the story behind our technology, missions and people, for ATMOS Space Cargo and for our defence subsidiary ATMOS WORKS.
You will report to the Head of Communications and join a small and agile team that covers both companies. The Head of Communications sets the strategy, the narrative and the key messages. You own the day-to-day delivery: the press activities, executive communications, and communications around launches, recovery operations and events. You will work closely with leadership, engineering and our external partners. This is a hands-on role: you write, pitch and are on site yourself.
Key responsibilities
- Run day-to-day press and media relations for ATMOS Space Cargo and ATMOS WORKS across Germany, France, Poland and wider Europe. This includes pitching, handling inbound requests, and organising interviews, press visits and briefings
- Write and coordinate press releases, announcements, op-eds, articles and interview material, within the core narrative and key messages set by the Head of Communications
- Translate complex technical topics, mission developments and company milestones into clear, accurate stories for media, customers, institutional partners and the public
- Prepare executives for interviews, panels and keynotes. Draft speeches, presentations, bios and content published under their names, and assess incoming speaking and media requests
- Run communications around launches, recovery operations and other mission milestones, including, when plans change, crisis communications
- Plan and execute our presence at trade fairs and conferences, from booth concept with the design agency through logistics and staffing to on-site documentation
- Brief and steer external partners, including PR specialists in Germany, France and Poland
- Own the website news section and press kit, and contribute content to ATMOS LinkedIn, social media, newsletters and other channels
- Track coverage and how well our key messages land, report on results, and align messaging with sales and marketing
Profile required
- Professional experience in PR, corporate communications, media relations or journalism, including running media relations independently (agency or in-house). A background in journalism or editorial media is a strong plus
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt complex topics to different audiences and communication channels
- Proven experience in space, aerospace, defence, deep tech or another technology-driven industry
- An established network of journalists in at least one of our core markets (Germany, France, Poland) or in international business and trade media
- Experience running communications around events, launches or other high-stakes moments, ideally including crisis communications
- Experience preparing executives for media and stage appearances, and writing in their tone of voice
- Strong communication skills, editorial judgement and the ability to manage multiple topics independently and to prioritise under pressure in a fast-growing company
- Discretion with confidential information, and comfortable communicating on both civil and defence topics
- Fluent English (C1/C2, written and spoken) and fluency in German or French. Polish is an advantage
- Willingness to travel regularly within Europe for events, press visits and missions
*This role requires regular onsite (min. 2-3 days/weeks) presence at our location in Lichtenau, Germany.
Company description
ATMOS was founded as a European company built on the values of freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights. We are committed to protect these values by making our technology available to others who share the same values, strengthening infrastructure and innovation for prosperity on Earth.
Our team is multinational and diverse, with offices in Lichtenau and Strasbourg. We work in a collegial, hands-on culture where people support each other, take ownership, and keep learning every day. Motivation for the mission comes first — building spacecraft is not a nine-to-five pursuit. We align the mission, the team, and the individual in mutual dependence. This principle shapes our work environment where exceptional people, as committed as they are competent, can grow and contribute to a mission that matters.
